My Unforgettable 6-Day Sichuan Adventure: Pandas, Jiuzhaigou & Huanglong's Fairyland
Before my trip, everyone told me Sichuan's northern region is like "a palette knocked over by God." I always wondered what that meant—until I stepped onto this journey linking pandas, Jiuzhaigou, and Huanglong! Six days of bouncing from Chengdu's lively streets to the plateau's crystal-clear scenery, every moment felt like a happy surprise. This trip isn't just a vacation; it's a fairy tale I got to live in!
My adventure started in Chengdu, a city that feels like a warm hug the second you arrive! The air was humid, and the smell of spicy food was everywhere—total heaven for a food lover like me. A private car picked us up from the airport and took us to the Grand Hyatt Chengdu, which was super cozy. As soon as we dropped off our bags, we rushed to Chunxi Road. That famous climbing panda at IFS? Even cuter in person! I took so many photos with it, I almost filled my phone's storage.
In the evening, we headed to Jinli Ancient Street. Red lanterns lit up the whole street, and it felt like stepping into a historical drama—so much Three Kingdoms culture and Sichuan folk charm! The snack stalls were my favorite part,I ate non-stop! We ended the night with a fiery Chengdu hot pot, and let me tell you—spicy, fragrant, and absolutely addictive. My taste buds were already doing a happy dance!
Early the next morning, we said goodbye to Chengdu and headed to Huanglong. When I first saw those travertine pools, I literally gasped—no words could describe how beautiful they are! Along the 3.6-kilometer Huanglong Valley, thousands of colorful pools were scattered like broken jade. The sun shone on the water, creating rainbow-like colors—sometimes bright blue, sometimes emerald green, like a colorful carpet laid out by nature.
Day 3 was the day I'd been waiting for: Jiuzhaigou! They call it the "Fairyland on Earth," and it's 100% true. When we got to the scenic area, we took a shuttle bus into the valley, and the Y-shaped gully unfolded like a postcard.
Day 4 was a second trip to Jiuzhaigou—such a great idea for a deep dive! We got up early to beat the crowds, and the park was so quiet and peaceful in the morning. We went straight to Zechawagou Valley first. Changhai Lake, the highest and largest lake in Jiuzhaigou, was stunning: deep blue water, tall mountains around it, and the morning sun making the water sparkle. It felt so calm and grand. Nearby, the Five-Colored Pool here was small but beautiful—like a handful of shining gems, changing colors with the light. We drank fragrant highland barley wine, tasted rich butter tea, and watched energetic Tibetan dances. The Tibetan people were so warm and friendly—dancing and laughing with them was the best way to experience local culture. I felt like part of the family!
On Day 5, we said goodbye to Jiuzhaigou and headed back to Chengdu, stopping in Chuanzhusi Town for a break. This little town, at 3,000 meters above sea level, is a busy hub for trips to Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong. It's also a mix of Han and Tibetan cultures—so interesting! We rested here for a while, had a nice lunch, and soaked up the small-town charm.
The last day of the trip I chose the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding! The guide told us 9-11 am is when pandas are most active, and she was right! In the Moon and Sun Nurseries, the baby pandas were so adorable—rolling around, napping on tree branches, or munching on bamboo slowly. My heart melted watching them! All the tiredness from the trip disappeared instantly.
